Our Response

The sense of urgency has grown as we face the rapid spread of the Coronavirus. In light of the government’s revised guidelines Emmanuel has suspended all of its meetings until further notice. This applies to our meetings both large and small, from our Sunday services to smaller social and discipleship settings for two or three people. Please adjust your social interactions to comply with this revised policy, as we encouraged on Sunday.

Plans are currently being drawn up to offer pastoral care and support online to everyone regularly connected with Emmanuel. Our hope is that in the next day or two we will be able to confirm this and that you will be able to begin to connect online with groups within Emmanuel on a regular basis. Please adopt into this phase quicklyas it might be our required pattern of connecting together for an extended season ahead.

As well as plans to connect and care we are also finalising plans to live stream our ‘service’ from this coming Sunday. We will launch this at 10:30am and encourage everyone to participate.

We have spent many years praying as achurch for revival in our nation and greater opportunities to serve our city – it feels that answers to our prayers might be closer than we imagined! We have never had a better opportunity to serve our communities and demonstrate the love of God to neighbours and friends.

Amid all the turmoil, fear and insecurity please can I ask that we pray asking God to give us His wisdom and strength. This global crisis calls for God’s people to stand firm and offer a model of faith and courage in their unchanging God. I think we will look back on this year as one of the most significant in Emmanuel’s development.

Psalm 46

1 God is our refuge and strength,

an ever-present help in trouble.

2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way

and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,

3 though its waters roar and foam

and the mountains quake with their surging.

4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,

the holy place where the Most High dwells.

5 God is within her, she will not fall;

God will help her at break of day.

6 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;

he lifts his voice, the earth melts.

7 The Lord Almighty is with us;

the God of Jacob is our fortress.

*** In light of the recent coronavirus guidelines from Public Health England, we have created a policy to ensure our church have appropriately assessed any risks.

And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another.
